Cardboard Corner Cafe opens Feb. 16

Cardboard Corner Cafe — featuring delectable waffles, grilled sandwiches, snack-like shareables, a diverse drink menu and an enthusiastic embrace of board games – officially opens at the Lenexa Public Market on Friday, Feb. 16. The newest anchor tenant is in the northeast corner of the Lenexa Public Market.

“The waffle irons are hot, the drinks are cold, and the dice are ready to roll,” said Madeline Davis, owner of Cardboard Corner Cafe. “Come say hello at our brand-new space, here at the Market. We think nothing pairs better with good food than good games. We cannot wait to add to the Market’s amazing offerings and help grow the community.”

This is the second location for the Cafe, which will continue to operate its flagship at 9240 Metcalf Ave. in Overland Park next to their sister company, TableTop Game and Hobby.

A celebratory ribbon cutting with Lenexa Mayor Julie Sayers will be held on Thursday, Feb. 22 at noon on the main floor of the Public Market near the merchant stall.

Menu

“We are tailoring our existing menu of artisan waffles and shareables to the Market, adding breakfast and sandwich options,” said Davis. “We have put together a Build-Your-Own-Boba menu, and our bar menu is expanding to offer a selection of cocktails that showcase local distilleries as well as premiering a selection of tiki-themed drinks.”

The menu will feature:

  • Breakfast waffles & waffle sandwiches
  • Savory waffles (loaded baked potato, buffalo chicken)
  • Sandwiches & grilled cheese
  • Waffle pops (great for a sweet treat)
  • Sharables (loaded nachos, spinach parmesan dip)
  • Build your own boba drinks
  • Cocktails, including a tiki menu, mule menu, and cocktails featuring local distilleries

The full menu, including some gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan options, will be available throughout the day. Cardboard Corner Cafe’s operating hours are Monday – Saturday from 7 a.m.to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Daily last call is thirty minutes prior to closing time.

Games

In addition to exceptional food and drink offerings, Cardboard Corner Café will have over 250 free-to-play games that guests can check out and play at the Public Market. Board games will also be for sale from TableTop Game and Hobby.

Weekly Board Game Demonstrations

To spread their love of board games, Cardboard Corner Cafe will host a weekly game night on Mondays from 6 to 9 p.m. Their community ambassadors will teach games they’re excited about to people who are excited to learn. The first game night is Monday, Feb. 12.

The weekly event will take place in The Kitchen, located on the lobby level of City Hall – above the main Public Market floor. There is no cost to participate, and seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Games will be announced in advance. Upcoming weeks include:

  • Feb. 12, 2024: Calico, Love Letter, Canvas, Camel Up
  • Feb. 19, 2024: Scout, Fragments, 3 Ring Circus
  • Feb. 26, 2024: Azul, Holding On: The Troubled Life of Billy Kerr, Carcassonne
