KC Döner brings authentic Turkish flavors to Lenexa Public Market
Published on April 17, 2025
After refining their business plan and menu at over 50 pop-up events at the Lenexa Public Market over the past year, KC Döner will open a stall at the food hall later this spring.
Owner Sami Jenedi works alongside his mother, Chef Nesrin Jenedi, to bring Mediterranean cuisine with a strong Turkish identity to the Public Market.
KC Döner’s menu is flavorful, fresh and rooted in tradition. Sami explains “Our recipes come straight from home, specifically Antioch (Antakya) in southern Turkey. This region is known for its unique culinary identity, blending Turkish, Arabic and Mediterranean influences. Everything we make is based on traditional recipes passed down in our family. This food is personal; it reflects both our roots and our journey. My mom leads the cooking, bringing the traditional flavors of Antioch to life, while I bring in my experience from when I worked as a cook at Hilton Barcelona. Every dish is made with care, and we want people to feel at home through the food we serve.”
While the exact opening date of the new stall has yet to be announced, fans of KC Döner won’t have to wait to enjoy their menu. As they prepare their new space—located next to African Dream Cuisine—KC Döner will continue hosting pop-up events at the Public Market throughout April and May. Sami shares his excitement about the next step in his entrepreneurial journey.
“I’ve always dreamed of opening a small restaurant where I could share our food and culture with others,” he said. “Being able to bring that dream to life, especially alongside my mom, makes me proud. We’re not just serving meals; we’re sharing a piece of who we are. Seeing people connect with our food and enjoy something new is the most rewarding part.
“People might be surprised by how comforting and approachable Turkish cuisine really is. There’s a lot of variety, but at its core, it’s food that feels familiar—grilled meats, fresh herbs, warm spices and flaky pastries. It’s different, but not distant. We also offer some vegan and vegetarian options, like hummus, red lentil balls and tabouli salad.”
Introducing opportunities for new restaurant concepts to grow and develop at the Public Market is central to the mission of the Kansas City metropolitan area’s first food hall.
“We’re excited to welcome this new Turkish concept to the Public Market,” said Public Market Manager Tessa Adcock. “Their authentic flavors and fresh take on traditional recipes is something truly special. We’re confident that our guests will appreciate and enjoy what KC Döner has to offer.”
Sami shares how thrilled he is to be joining the Public Market family.
“The Lenexa Public Market has a welcoming, vibrant energy,” he said. “I’ve always enjoyed coming here to meet people, try new food and spend time with my family. Now, becoming a merchant feels like a full-circle moment. I’m excited to be part of such a diverse community of makers. It's a chance to share a piece of my culture with a wider audience.”
In related news, the Public Market has begun searching for a merchant to replace Cosmo Burger. Food entrepreneurs with fresh concepts or a new twist on an existing concept are encouraged to submit a food vendor interest form.
