The brisket everyone's talking about

Quentin Van Horn, owner of Shawnee-based food truck Point & Flat BBQ, has built a loyal following with his Texas-style barbecue.

“My signature menu item would have to be my Texas-style brisket,” he said. “With its seasoning of salt pepper and granulated garlic, it makes for the perfect bark and juiciness. It’s the absolute perfect add-on to any order.”

That brisket is smoked over oak and hickory for 14 hours, but it's just one highlight on the menu.

“My hidden gem I would say would be the brisket grilled cheese,” Quentin said. “It's on jalapeño cheddar sourdough and I use two slices of yellow American cheese and two slices of white American cheese. Add some pickles and BBQ sauce on the side and it's a killer sandwich.”

The menu also features rotating specials, including smoked Reubens, brisket nachos and street corn.

“For first time visitors, I suggest ordering the brisket plate,” Quentin said. “You get a half pound of brisket and two sides.”

Point & Flat BBQ first visited the Lenexa Public Market during Food Truck Frenzy in 2024 and has become a favorite with local customers.

“My favorite part about serving the Lenexa community is the people,” he said. “We have a great following in Lenexa. I see so many people that have followed us and supported us throughout our four years of existence as a business.”

Try Point & Flat BBQ when they pop up at the Lenexa Public Market Aug. 21–23, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily in The Kitchen upstairs. You can also catch them at Friday Night Sound Bites on Sept. 11.
