Homestead Kitchen + Bakery to open at Public Market
Published on June 02, 2025
The Lenexa Public Market is excited to announce its newest culinary addition, Homestead Kitchen + Bakery, to the dynamic lineup of local merchants. This marks the second location for the business which has built a faithful following at their original storefront in Baldwin City, Kansas.
Homestead Kitchen + Bakery Owners Kelly and Lori Gardner will operate out of the stall which formerly housed Cosmo Burger, who left to start their first standalone restaurant in Kansas City, Missouri. Renovations will take place in the coming weeks with an exact opening date expected in early July.
They will operate seven days a week serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks throughout the day. From a turkey bacon ranch wrap and biscuits and gravy to cranberry orange scones and strawberry swirl muffins, Homestead Kitchen + Bakery has a little bit of everything on their menu. They will serve some gluten free and dairy free items as well.
“We’re a delicious, casual concept that brings balance to the table. Whether you want a healthy salad and protein balls, or you have a hankering for a burger, fries, and ice cream, we have something for every mood,” said Owner Lori Gardner. “We’ve been in business for close to nine years and we’ve worked very hard to build a concept that our customers enjoy. We look forward to sharing that with our friends in Lenexa!”
“The Homestead Kitchen + Bakery is a true gem – it brings back memories of my favorite bakery cafe from childhood,” said Public Market Manager Tessa Adcock. “Lori and Kelly are filling a real gap in our current offerings at the Market with their homemade, comfort foods that are going to hit the spot.”
Lori explains how their business grew. “What started as a simple love for baking, quickly grew into something much more. Shortly after adding four more children to our family by way of adoption, I began by baking out of our home, sharing cookies and other yummies with friends and neighbors. Word spread, and soon I was selling at the local farmers market and our church coffee shop. Before long, I realized I had outgrown that cozy setup. With a growing list of loyal customers and a new-found love for business, I opened our first storefront in 2016 in downtown Baldwin City, KS. Since then, Homestead Kitchen + Bakery has been a place where good food and friendly smiles come together. We’ve loved getting to know our community and serving up a fresh, delicious variety of pastries, meals and sweet treats—always made with care, just like the early days.”
