Say cheers to outdoor beers with us on April 28! Utepils is a Norwegian term for enjoying a first beer outdoors each spring. Celebrate the return of warmer weather and our live music series with samples from local craft breweries, our beer'd and mustache contest and more during the first Friday Night Sound Bites of 2023.
Come and go or stay until close. Grab a friend, get some grub and groove into the weekend with local band: Post Clarity.
Food and drinks are also available for purchase from the Public Market merchants and rotating guest food trucks. This week the guest food truck is: The Corndog Company serving from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Music is located outside the Market on the Lower Commons. Patio seating is available, but we encourage BYOC—bring your own chair.
Outside alcohol is not allowed. You may purchase alcoholic beverages from Public Market merchants.
Free admission. No pre-registration or tickets required to attend.

- 7 to 8 p.m. — Beer samples from your favorite Johnson County breweries outside on the Lower Commons.
- 7 to 10 p.m. — Post Clarity performing on the Lower Commons
- 7:45 to 8 p.m. — Beer’d and Mustache contest
- 9:30 p.m. — Last call for alcohol from Public Market Merchants

Beer’d & Mustache Contest
Do you have a dapper beard or stylish 'stache? We'll be the judge of that! Enter the annual Beer'd & Mustache Contest during Utepils. You could be crowned the champion of facial hair in several categories. Win a prize package of groovy grooming products from local business and Lenexa Farmers Market vendor, TwiinZ Beard Balm & Essentials!
Registration is from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the information booth on the main market floor. The contest is free to enter.
Inclement weather plan
We hope it doesn’t rain on our celebration but if it does, we will move a few of the activities indoors: the beer sampling, ceremonial toast and the Beer’d and Mustache contest. The Friday Night Sound Bites band and food truck would be canceled.
