Spring break for local schools officially starts this weekend. If you’re having a staycation, we have ten ideas to keep your kids entertained. (These also make for great date night ideas!)

#1 This Saturday, March 9, take in a free indoor performance for City Center Live: Kansas City Ballet Second Company from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. inside the Community Forum at Lenexa City Hall. Before the performance, explore Creativity in Bloom at the City Hall Art Gallery.

#2 Rent an e-bike from one of Lenexa’s eight hubs to see the city from a new perspective. Bike hubs are located at: Black Hoof Park, Central Green Park, Lenexa civic campus (by the parking garage), Little Mill Creek North Park, Old Town Lenexa and Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park.

#3 Join Cardboard Corner Cafe for the Learn to Play Board Games weekly game demo on Mondays from 6 to 9 p.m. upstairs in The Kitchen. Free; no tickets or registration required. Explore 250+ free board games you can borrow at the Public Market daily during regular business hours.

#4 Bring the group to Family Night on Wednesdays from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Public Market. Don’t miss Storytime with Lenexa City Center Library on March 13 from 6 to 6:30 p.m.

#5 Have your teen line up a summer job. Lenexa Parks & Recreation is hosting a Lifeguard Recruitment Pool Party on March 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lenexa Rec Center’s indoor pool. Registration required.

#6 Travel with your tastebuds by trying authentic flavors of Israel, Kenya, Bolivia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Colombia, at the Global Flavors: Ethnic Enrichment of Kansas City’s pop-up restaurant March 8-10 and March 22-24. Participating countries vary by day. Check the Public Market’s calendar for details.

#7 Treat yourself (or the kids) to baked goods from Pop-up restaurant: Yellow Brick Bakery on March 16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the main Market level. They’ll have a Saint Patrick’s Day themed specialty menu featuring grasshopper pies, key lime bars, shamrock shake cupcakes, Guinness chocolate cakes, Bailey's sugar cookies, and fudge mint brownies.

#8 Spring cleaning is real. Grab a dozen donuts from Mr. D’s Coffee or order a couple of large pizzas from Topp’d Pizza + Salads and reward the kids for decluttering. Fill your car with gently used items and donate to a local thrift store. Have new diapers (packaged and unpackaged) laying around? Donate them at City Hall or the Lenexa Rec Center for Happy Bottoms diaper drive through March 29.

#9 Get outdoors. Pack a picnic and explore Lenexa’s 30+ parks where you can walk the trails, play at the playground and enjoy time outside.

#10 Breakfast sandwiches, cinnamon-sugar tots and mimosas? Yes, please. Plan brunch at the Public Market with your weekend crew. Cosmo Burger serves their brunch menu on Sundays only from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cardboard Corner Cafe has breakfast all day, every day.
