Serving up success in 2022

Serving up success in 2022

Bringing together people, creating new events and providing space for small business owners to engage with the community are all part of our purpose. In 2022, we served up success in many ways.

A space for businesses to grow

Just in time for the Market’s fifth anniversary, Cosmo Burger built out the last remaining anchor spot on the Market floor. Cosmo Burger got its start in 2020 as pop-up kitchen in Waldo and quickly earned acclaim for its thin, crispy and juicy burgers. Their simple and scrumptious menu at the Market focuses on smash burgers and tater tots, accompanied by a menu of seasonal craft cocktails, all made with a high level of detail and quality ingredients.

A space for entrepreneurs to thrive

Owner/Chef Kate Smith of Butterfield’s Bakery & Market was named a “Young Entrepreneur of the Year” by the Kansas Department of Commerce, Office of Minority and Women Business Development, and a winner of NextGen Under 30 through the Department of Commerce.

Smith started out at the Market in early 2019 selling French macarons from a day cart. She opened a specialty confections stall, Kate Smith Soirée, in June 2019 and launched a full restaurant concept, Butterfield’s Bakery & Market, in 2020.

“The Public Market’s purpose is to provide opportunities for new entrepreneurs to grow their businesses, and Kate is doing just that,” said Market Manager Tessa Adcock. “Her accomplishments signify the strong support of the Lenexa community for our local, small business owners.”

A space for bringing people together

The Market was designed to be a community gathering place, and events throughout the year drew some of the space’s biggest audiences yet — including our festive fifth anniversary party (pictured at top).

Stop by each Wednesday evening with the kids for food and drink specials and rotating activities at Family Night. Enjoy some friendly competition at Board Game Night, the first Monday of each month. Friday Night Sound Bites returns with weekly live music and food trucks April 28.

And, we’ve got an exciting mix of new events and fan-favorite celebrations with a twist coming in 2023. First up: a Lunar New Year Celebration from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. on Jan. 22. Bring in the Year of the Rabbit with food and drink specials, fun activities and more!
