Lenexa Public Market is taking every precaution to keep our customers, staff, and the community safe during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak. Since the COVID-19 (coronavirus) made its way to our area, we began taking extra steps in an effort to promote the safety and well-being of our customers, merchants and staff, and the community at large. Please be assured that we, along with Lenexa city leaders are closely monitoring the situation and staying up to date with guidance and direction from the World Health Organization (WHO), Center for Disease Control (CDC), Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) and Johnson County Health Department (JCHD).

The City of Lenexa has created a coronavirus information and resources webpage and will post updates there.

For now, the Lenexa Public Market operation and hours will remain the same. Should this change, we will communicate information on our website, through social media and emails.

It is standard practice in the world of food service, for proper, regular hand washing as a habitual behavior. Lenexa Public Market staff, along with our custodial team, regularly cleans our common areas like tables, counters, chairs, and restrooms both during operating hours and after closing. We have heightened our cleaning efforts at the Lenexa Public Market and our cleaning focuses on regularly disinfecting all “high-touch surfaces.” This includes, but isn’t limited to:

  • Wiping down and sanitizing tables, chairs, counters, doorknobs, push bars and elevator buttons.
  • Providing hand sanitizer stations for customer use.
  • Using food-safe disinfectant bombs twice a week throughout the facility as well as a mist disinfectant product to help kill pathogens, viruses and bacteria on contact.
  • Adding the CDC instructions for proper hand washing in our restrooms
  • Temporarily reconfiguring or removing seating to promote social distancing measures recommended by the CDC.
  • Using single-use utensils and serving ware to the extent possible, and removing community items such as condiments, lids, straws, etc.
  • Canceling events with large expected attendance.
  • Removing high-touch items like community board games, books and magazines.

Here are some things you can do to help keep yourself, your family and friends, and your community safe:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after visiting the restroom; before eating; after blowing your nose, coughing, sneezing or touching your face
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
  • If you are feeling unwell, please stay home.
  • Cough into your elbow and cover your sneeze with a tissue then discard the tissue in the trash, followed by hand washing.

Small businesses rely on customer sales to pay their employees and keep their businesses open. Please think about how you might continue your vital support of small businesses while protecting your own health and that of our community. Many of our Lenexa Public Market merchants are on delivery services like Door Dash, Grub Hub, Uber Eats, fill call-in/take-out orders, or will be conducting curbside delivery (details to come).

This is an evolving situation and we are monitoring it closely to ensure all proper precautions are being taken so that everyone feels safe coming to the Lenexa Public Market. We can’t stress enough that the health and wellness of our customers, staff, merchants and the broader community are our priority at this time.

Thank you for your help in keeping everyone as healthy and safe as possible. If we make additional changes that impact our customers (like limiting hours of operation or canceling future events), we will inform you immediately via social media, newsletter and the Lenexa Public Market website.
